Level 2 Lessons
The following activities have been designed for level 2 (upper primary) pupils.
- The Hunt
- This activity uses the hunt scene from the Classics Comic's version of The Lady of the Lake. It encourages pupils to think of the same event from different perspectives.
- The Lay of the Last Minstrel
- This activity uses the opening section from Scott's The Lay of the Last Minstrel. It includes drama and reading activities.
- Letter Writing
- This activity uses one of Scott's letters about his writing as a template for the pupils' own letters. It involves creating and drawing a personal crest, thinking about your favourite poem, writing a letter, folding paper, and reading and analysing Scott's letter.
- Writing about Place
- This activity uses the description of Melrose from Scott's poem The Lay of the Last Minstrel. It involves reading and analysing a section of poetry.
- Jock of Hazeldean
- This activity engages with Scott's ballad, 'Jock of Hazeldean.' These activites are scaffolded so that the pupils can read the ballad without much intervention from the teacher.
