Research Fellow, Biological Sciences (SBS162R)

This post is part of a UK NERC Pushing the Frontiers research project, aiming to understand eco-evolutionary dynamics involving partial seasonal migration.Numerous populations of diverse taxa have some ability to respond to tough seasonal environments through reversible movements (seasonal migration, on some small or large spatial scale). But we still have little ability to predict how quickly such movements, and resulting spatio-seasonal population dynamics, could change in response to climate change or other environmental perturbations.

Job Description

This post provides an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to major new attempts to predict such eco-evolutionary dynamics in nature.

The researcher will be based primarily in the School of Biological Sciences, University of Aberdeen, UK. There will be close working collaborations with researchers at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU, Norway) and UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (Edinburgh, UK, Professor Francis Daunt), with opportunities for extended visits to these groups.

Together, these groups hold strong expertise in population, behavioural, evolutionary and statistical ecology, including current emphasis on understanding the evolutionary ecology of seasonal migration. They hold thriving PhD and postdoctoral research communities, in which the successful applicant will be embedded.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, £37,099 - £39,347 per annum with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Informal enquiries should be made to Professor Jane Reid, Professor of Population & Evolutionary Ecology, e-mail:  jane.reid@abdn.ac.uk

At the time an offer of appointment is made, you will be asked to demonstrate that you fulfil the criteria in respect of qualification and competency in English. For research and academic posts, we will consider eligibility under the Global Talent visa. Please do not hesitate to contact Lucy Redmayne, HR Adviser (e-mail: lucy.redmayne@abdn.ac.uk) for further information.
