This is a past event

This event is part of a new pilot initiative at The Alan Turing Institute supported by the AHRC: Data/Culture: Building sustainable communities around Arts and Humanities datasets and software, in association with the N8 Centre of Excellence for Computationally Intensive Research.

Join us for a hands-on workshop about digital research with:

  • Maps: MapReader, a tool for searching the visual content of large map collections with computer vision and machine learning methods.
  • Newspapers: New resources for exploring and using open-access digitised newspaper collections in the UK

This workshop aims to bring together historians and others with an interest in using big, digitised historical map and newspaper collections as primary sources for digitally-inflected research. By bringing together peers working in this space, we aim to learn about and discuss ways to encourage open research in the humanities through skill development and shared digital resources and infrastructure. Instructors will include members of the Data/Culture team and former Living with Machines colleagues.

This free in-person only event is limited to 30 registered participants. Find out more and register here.
