Biography
I am a Ph.D. student in the School of Biological Sciences looking at the endangered freshwater pearl mussel. My project uses both genomic and modelling techniques to identify genomic vulnerability to climate change and identify reasons for the mussels decline. I also aim to predict particularly vulnerable populations under different future climate scenarios.
My Ph.D. supervisors are Dr. Kara Layton, Dr Lesley Lancaster, Dr Stuart Piertney and Dr Victoria Pritchard from the University of Highlands and Islands. My project is funded by the SUPER DTP.
My previous projects have included the impact of hydrodynamic stress on morphotypes of Littorina saxatilis and my Masters thesis on the gametogenic ecology of the Antarctic brittlestar Ophionotus victoriae.
Qualifications
- MSci Marine Biology with a year study abroad2018 - University of Southampton
First class integrated masters degree from the University of Southampton. Included training from oceanography to biology, marine vertebrates to invertebrates, estuarine to deep sea habitats and field work to genomic lab work.
Studied abroad at the University Centre in Svalbard and the University of Gothenburg. Projects included cyanobacteria presence along bird cliff nitrogen gradients and the effect of ecotype shape differences of Littorena saxatilis on ability to withstand hydrodynamic stress.
