Pigmented Basal Cell Carcinoma

This BCC displays the same characteristics as a nodular BCC, but in addition to this, contains pigment. Note the raised, rolled, pearly edges with central ulceration. These lesions can be very difficult to clinically differentiate from nodular malignant melanomas

This lesion has a very well defined and regular border, but pearly edges can be seen, as well as an early area of central ulceration. Note the telangiectasia surrounding the lesion.

Features

These have the same features as Nodular lesions, but pigmented lesions contain increased brown or black pigment and are more commonly seen in those with dark skin.

Differential Diagnosis

Malignant melanoma. Pigmented naevi.
