AUCEL Director, Dr Daria Shapovalova participated in the Annual Conference of the UK Environmental Law Association. Daria contributed to the panel titled ‘Is Energy Law Ready for Net Zero’. Chaired by Stephen Hockman KC, the panel featured practicing lawyers – Ross Fairley and Odette Chalaby, as well the Commercial Director of RenewableUK, Elizabeth Conboy. Daria presented on the fragmentation and convergence of UK climate law and oil and gas law in light of the recent regulatory developments and judicial practice. With the Finch decision expected imminently from the UK Supreme Court, the outcome on the role of Scope 3 emissions in the environmental impact assessment processes has the potential to fundamentally change the regulatory landscape. The panel also featured an audience Q&A discussing the role of supply v demand measures in energy transition, electricity market reform, and the role of energy in the election manifestos.
