On 5 June 2024, we organised the AUCEL day away on campus in Old Aberdeen. The day was dedicated to celebrating the research conducted this year, discuss lessons learned and research themes for the next year, and connecting with our research community.
We started with workshops on publishing during your PhD and tips for academic job hunt - Dr Eddy Wifa and Dr Daria Shapovalova shared their experiences of settling into academic roles after doing their PhD at the University of Aberdeen. We discussed the step by step process, challenges, and practicalities of publishing during PhD, and processes for funding applications.
The morning session also included presentations by our PhD students. Andrew Walters presented on the role of law and governance in balancing the priorities in nationally significant infrastructure projects in the UK, and Liliyana Kalinova presented on environmental impact assessment and space law.
In the afternoon, we held a thought provoking session with a presentation from Dr Eddy Wifa on offshore wind safety regulation, and a paper discussion on mapping the law of just transition in Scotland from Dr Daria Shapovalova.
