COP28, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, started on 30 November in Dubai (UAE), and brings together over 70,000 delegates from around the world. For two weeks, member states of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, business leaders, young people, climate scientists, Indigenous Peoples, journalists, and other stakeholders, will work to agree on ways to address the climate crisis, help vulnerable communities adapt to the effects of climate change, and achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Dr Daria Shapovalova and Dr Eddy Wifa were invited by the World Commission on Environmental Law of the InternationalUnion for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to author a brief on the role of law in enabling a just transition for their COP28 series. The brief is now published here.
