On Thursday 24 October, our Professor John Paterson gave a lecture on the legal and regulatory dimension of decommissioning to the first intake of PhD students to the National Decommissioning Centre at Newburgh.
On Friday 25 October, he hosted a session at the NDC featuring Uisdean Vass, Head of Oil and Gas at Ledingham Chalmers, and Jim Christie, formerly of the Oil and Gas Authority, on the ongoing evolution of the law relating to decommissioning in the UK in the context of the Maximising Economic Recovery Strategy.
This event involved the PhD students as well as the on-campus students on the multidisciplinary MSc Decommissioning and was recorded for the benefit of the students from all over the world who are taking the online version of the MSc. Following the event, there was an opportunity for all involved to tour the engineering research facilities at the NDC.
The NDC is a partnership between the Oil and Gas Technology Centre and the University of Aberdeen, established to deliver industry-led Research and Development focused on extending field and assert life, reducing costs and transforming the conventional approaches to decommissioning.
