This presentation will be based on Janan’s book ‘Iraq’s Oil and Gas Industry’, providing a brief outline and overview of comparative contracts against the backdrop of those historically used in Iraq’s oil sector.

Janan is a dual-qualified barrister with over 10 years’ experience in providing practical, commercial solutions for a range of contractual and regulatory issues. In this time, she has advised on a range of issues including energy, shipping, commodities, international trade, financial regulation and insurance.
In addition to her professional practise, Janan has doctoral expertise in upstream oil contracts, governance, legislation and policy with a PhD attained in 2017 at SOAS, London. Janan has previously taught contract law and regulation and introduction to law and legal processes including international law. Her doctoral research interest covered the legal framework of the Iraqi oil industry in addition to the wider scope of economic and legal developments in the oil and gas industry throughout the MENA region and beyond.
Conference Papers relating to oil legislation in Iraq have been prepared for the Iraqi government and think-tanks in addition to presentations and attendance at international venues for open and invitation-only events.
