Prominent Law Lecturer delivered a seminar on Islamic law & international parental child abduction

On Friday 11 March 2022, the Aberdeen Centre for Private International Law, under the auspices of the Law School Research Seminar series, welcomed Professor Anver Emon from the University of Toronto, Canada, who delivered a fascinating research seminar on Islamic law and international parental child abduction (titled: ‘Hard Legal Problems and Comparative Legal Analysis: The case of parental child abduction in international and Islamic law’). In his presentation, Professor Emon shared insights from his recent book titled Jurisdictional Exceptionalisms where he and his co-author Professor Urfan Khaliq integrated their respective research on private international law and Islamic law to address the cotemporary legal challenges surrounding international parental child abduction. The event, which led to a lively and insightful discussion, attracted about 30 participants from across the globe, including from countries in East Asia, Eastern Europe and South America.
