Research Fellow, Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition (ROW132R)

THE ROWETT INSTITUTE, UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN and the Aberdeen-based Microbiology/Biotechnology company NCIMB will work together to further fundamental and applied research to enhance current knowledge about host-microbe interactions in the human gut that contribute to human health. The project aims to investigate interactions between a novel bacterial co-culture and specific prebiotic substrates. This will lead to generation of a novel synbiotic product to boost gut health and immune function specifically targeted at the ageing population. 

Job Description

NCIMB aims to develop new products in high value healthcare markets. The microbiome sector has been identified as a growth opportunity focusing on industry practitioners developing probiotics and live biotherapeutic products.

The University of Aberdeen’s Rowett Institute is part of the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition and is a vibrant and exciting working environment for both established and early career researchers. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team with world leading microbiome expertise working in the excellent purpose-built facilities in the Rowett’s Gut Microbiology group.

This 11-12 months funding-limited post is jointly funded by Innovate UK and NCIMB through the BBSRC Technology Strategy Board programme. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented graduate to manage and deliver a strategic innovation project, supported by an expert academic team.

Salary will be paid at the rate £37,999 to £39,105 per annum and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
