Advanced Research Fellow, Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture (LAN141R)
The Centre for Multilingual Research at the University of Aberdeen (CMLR) promotes and disseminates interdisciplinary and transnational research carried out across a range of language disciplines including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Francophone Studies, Gaelic, German, Spanish and Latin American Studies and Translation and Interpreting Studies. The Centre also contributes to the University’s Interdisciplinary Challenge area of Social Inclusion and Cultural Diversity. For the SSHRC-funded project Visual Storytelling and Graphic Art in Genocide and Human Rights Education the Centre is looking for a part time post-doctoral researcher supporting the project’s Rwanda cluster, co-led by Dr Erin Jessee (University of Glasgow) and Dr Fransiska Louwagie (University of Aberdeen).
Job Description
The main purpose of the role is to support the project leads with several elements of the project. One of the main purposes of the project is to develop survivor-centred visual narratives of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, and to develop educational materials relating to these. We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with relevant experience in the study of memory, human rights and/or education and who is capable of supporting project outputs and public engagement. The Fellow will also be involved in collaborations with artists and survivors, in underpinning research for the graphic novels, the development of educational materials and outreach and engagement. The Fellow will contribute to publications and follow-on project applications.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 scale, £46,485 per annum, pro rata.
The role will be 30% of full-time hours (12 hours per week inclusive of paid breaks).
