Job Description

The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) is an international festival and academic symposium celebrating the many styles of fiddle playing and associated dance traditions that exist around the North Atlantic. From modest beginnings in Aberdeen in 2001, the Convention has become one of the largest, most respected events in the world of fiddle music and dance.

The successful candidate will plan, fundraise, programme, and produce the 2026 North Atlantic Fiddle Convention. The successful candidate will also be fully involved with other aspects of the Elphinstone Institute’s work, including community partnerships and public engagement, under the direction of the Institute’s Director.

This post is available on a fixed-term basis from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2026. The working hours would be as follows:

  • 22.5 hours per week (3 days per week) from 1 November 2024 to 30 June 2026
  • 37.5 hours per week (5 days per week) from 1 July 2026 to 31 July 2026
  • 22.5 hours per week (3 days per week) from 1 August 2026 to 31 October 2026

We would consider applications on a job share basis.

We are looking for a candidate committed to Public Engagement, with experience – both as an organiser and performer – in Scottish and international fiddle and dance traditions, event management, funding applications, and marketing/communications. The candidate should have an ability to work cooperatively to progress the aims of NAFCo, the Institute, and the University.

The successful candidate will have strong experience of arts and festival management including programming for young participants. Good presentation and interpersonal skills are essential.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, £37,099 - £44,263 per annum, pro rata with placement according to qualifications and experience.
