Lecture Capture - Panopto
Service Description
Lecture Capture is an umbrella term describing any technology that allows presenters to record what happens in their classrooms and make it available digitally. This service uses Panopto as a software capture program, which records cursor movement, typing, and other on-screen activity for demonstration purposes with an audio voiceover. Secondary USB video sources such as visualizer or webcam can also be recorded if they are connected to the computer.
Features
- Record everything on your computer screen, along with your voice, from any Panopto enabled classroom or PC.
- The resulting video files are published to Panopto’s cloud-hosted streaming media server.
- You will receive email confirmation containing a hyperlink. Use this to link to the video file from any web page or the MyAberdeen VLE. The recording can be streamed, or downloaded as an MPEG4 video file.
Content Retention
To ensure the University stays within the storage allowance on Panopto, the following retention rules are in place:
- From January 2024, content older than 3 years will be archived, if not viewed in the last 13 months (archived content is still available to playback with 2-days’ notice).
