Workshop on Microbiome and Transcriptome Analysis in Durban, South Africa from Kwon Lab on Vimeo.
Joining experts in the field of microbiome and transcriptome analysis, Dr. Shaw was invited to Durban to run the introductory sessions of the Workshop on Microbiome and Transcriptome analysis, as well as to assist in the workshop and coordinate the set up of the computing system. Topics covered by Dr. Shaw included an introduction to Unix, an introduction to sequencing technologies, and quality control. With support from the Harvard University Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), Ragon Institute, Sub-Saharan African Network for TB/HIV Research Excellence (SANTHE), and the Centre for the AIDS Program of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA), the workshop aimed to teach researchers in Africa the skills needed to encompass bioinformatics into their own research. Participants attended from all over South Africa, as well as from further afield, including Uganda, Eqypt and the USA.
