CGEBM delivers session on DNA for May Festival School's Programme
All members of the CGEBM team came together at the Old Aberdeen Campus at the end of May to deliver two sessions as part of the May Festival School's Programme. Genes Unzipped! aimed to teach children between P5 and P7 about DNA. The children learnt about what things contain DNA, learnt how DNA is translated into proteins through an interactive activity and got hands-on experience extracting DNA from strawberries.
The day was a huge success with fantastic interaction from the students and staff of two local primary schools. Each extracted DNA from a strawberry, became part of a protein, asked insightful questions and many became inspired about a career as a scientist.
