Biography
I am a Lecturer in Implementation Science in the Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation at the University of Aberdeen where I teach and conduct research on evidence synthesis and implementation science in health, public health, and increasingly, climate change mitigation and adaptation interventions. Prior to this role, I was an Assistant Professor in the Center for Evidence Synthesis in Health at Brown University where I led multiple systematic reviews for the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality as part of Brown’s Evidence Based Practice unit and taught graduate and undergraduate evidence synthesis and implementation science methods courses.
The broad focus of my work over the past two decades has been enhancing methods of knowing ‘what we know’ (evidence synthesis) and ‘how do we get what we know into practice’ (implementation science). I am particularly interested in complex systems that often involve multiple actors performing multiple behaviours over time to achieve a target change (e.g., de-implementing low value care, adopting novel healthcare innovations). I hold degrees across several disciplines (basic sciences, rehabilitation, education, epidemiology) and am interested in complex problems requiring complex solutions; I thus take a strong interdisciplinary approach to my work and value working in interdisciplinary collaborations.
I am co-course coordinator for one PGT course at the University of Aberdeen (PU5031: Evidence-based health) and evaluator for two other courses (PU5027: Fundamentals of research design and PU5038: Designing real-world trials). I welcome supervising both Masters- and PhD-level students interested in implementation or evidence synthesis methods for complex problems (e.g., decarbonising healthcare, addressing implementation gaps, etc.).
