Tracy Asamoah-Boateng

Tracy Asamoah-Boateng is research fellow in the school of law at the University of Aberdeen and currently working in the Just Transition Lab on a research project ‘A Just transition for Workers and Communities in the North East of Scotland’. She pursued a BSc in Environmental Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology in Ghana and MSc in Sustainable  Environmental Management at the University of Greenwich in the UK. She has spent four years of her PhD research at the university of Aberdeen in the field of Green Economy by assessing just transition challenges with focus on renewable energy electrification in sub-Saharan Africa .

Dr Iva Atanassova

Dr Iva Atanassova is a Lecturer in Marketing and a Co-Director of the Online MSc Marketing Management Programme. Iva’s research and publications focus on market intelligence use for marketing and business transformation, especially in technology-based companies and high-velocity industries. In the context of the Just Transition Project, Iva’s expertise will help in developing an understanding of how oil and gas companies respond to the current environmental volatility, more specifically, how they learn and adapt their operations, and what distinguishes successful companies from the ones that lag behind.

Dr Lynn Bennie

Dr Lynn Bennie is Reader in Politics in the School of Social Science at the University of Aberdeen.  Her main research interests are political participation, climate politics, elections and political parties.   She has worked on green politics, including green parties, protest groups and movements, and public opinion. This involves understanding the pressures on political systems to adapt and change in the face of sustainability challenges, as well as those factors which constrain the responses of mainstream political actors, especially parties in government.  She is Director of the MSc Political Activism and Campaigning.

Prof Gearoid Millar

Prof Gearoid Millar is based at the Department of Sociology. His research focuses on evaluating local experiences of policy implementation through a complexity lens and often reveals the unexpected or unpredicted impacts of these polices. His past work in this area focused primarily on well-meaning interventions for justice, peace, and development, for which he has developed an ethnographic approach to evaluation that gives voice to often marginalized communities. While he has primarily worked in conflict affected countries in the Global South in the past, he is very interested in applying the same perspectives and approaches to just transition research in the Global North.

Nnennaya Nwali

Nnennaya Nwali is a post graduate researcher at the School of Law. Her current research focuses on developing a legal framework to achieve a just energy transition for Nigeria, a country heavily dependent on oil. Her research perfectly aligns with the mission of the Just Transition Lab, which seeks to conduct interdisciplinary and impactful research on the challenges of a Just Transition.

Prof Beth Scott

Prof Beth Scott is a Professor in Marine Ecology, University of Aberdeen.  She conducts multi-disciplinary research using her expertise in oceanography, seabird and fisheries sciences. Recently her research portfolio has been focused on understanding the effects of marine renewable energy systems and developing methods for an ecosystem-based Marine Spatial Planning decision-support system to better incorporate ecosystem services and climate change knowledge into effective policies.   She is a Co-Director for the EPSRC Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Supergen Hub,  member of the Scottish Government Offshore Renewables Research (ScotMER) group, the Scottish Biodiversity Programme Board: Advisory Group and the European Marine Board WG on Marine Renewable Energy.

Dr Jamie Lee Stevenson

Dr Jamie Lee Stevenson is a scholarship lecturer and researcher in the School of Geosciences at the University of Aberdeen. Following on from his ecohydrological PhD, his research is primarily interested in how urban green spaces provide ecosystem services to the local area, and how these can be maximised by better understanding the role of vegetation type on these ecosystem services. He also undertakes ecohydrological research in the more remote uplands, as well as researching the information content of datasets and how sampling strategies can be made more efficient.

Malcolm Stone

Malcolm works at the University of Aberdeen’s research centre, The National Decommissioning Centre (NDC). The interdisciplinary NDC supports asset late life, decommissioning and energy transition projects. Malcolm has worked in the offshore energy sector and aerospace for more than 20 years. This has been both as a regulator, infield and in technical and technology development roles. He has also worked for 12 years within academia, developing industry focused projects. He joined the NDC from the Oil and Gas Authority, now the North Sea Transition Authority, where he was Technology Manager and his role focused on the regulatory processes, operator stewardship and early insights on energy integration. His personal interests include energy geopolitics and lessons learned for sustainable energy integration.

Dr Neda Trifonova

Dr Neda Trifonova is a research fellow at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Aberdeen. She is an interdisciplinary researcher with a focus on the understanding of the ecosystem and socio-economic effects of the global challenges of climate change and environmental impacts with a current focus on offshore renewable energy developments. She applies a natural capital lens to an understanding of ecosystem-level responses to different projections of marine use, that allows evidence-based solutions to policy issues relevant to Just Transition to maximise environmental and energy sustainability and society’s benefits.

Dr Eddy Wifa

Dr Eddy Wifa is an Energy Law lecturer at the School of Law, University of Aberdeen. He has a Masters in Oil and Gas Law with Distinction and a PhD Marine Renewable Energy Risk Governance both from the University of Aberdeen. His research expertise includes oil and gas contracting, offshore energy health, safety and environmental regulation across several jurisdictions, decommissioning, regulatory theories, energy and natural resource governance, energy transition and energy justice. He has advised governments and has been a part of several research projects. He has several publications and has spoken at several conferences and events. He is currently a member of the Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law, The Centre for Energy Transition and the Director of the African Natural Resource and Energy Law Network (ANREL).
