Space North East

Space North East is an outreach initiative established by the Department of Planetary Sciences to promote the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) subjects. As part of this initiative, we are working with secondary schools to help teach students more about space and planetary sciences.

The Department of Planetary Sciences is part of the School of Geosciences. Our focus is on the study of earth and planetary sciences and the development of instruments for earth and planetary exploration.


Who is it for?

The Space North East outreach project is open to any S1-S3 pupils interested in space subjects.

What does Space North East include?

The Space North East project can be completed online, or in the classroom.

Online

Through this online webinar series presented by Dr Miracle Israel Nazarious of the Department of Planetary Sciences, students will learn some basic space concepts. You can watch the webinar videos on the University of Aberdeen's YouTube channel, with links to each webinar below. You can also download the PowerPoint presentations used in each webinar.

Classroom

With the classroom delivery of this project, students conduct a classroom experiment, recording data measurements using equipment provided to their school by the Department of Planetary Sciences. The students will then upload the measurements to a dedicated webpage through which they can monitor the results. Each measurement will take a maximum of 10 minutes and can be recorded on school days.
