Code of Conduct
PCST 2025 Aberdeen
The Public Communication of Science and Technology Network (PCST) is committed to working towards a future in which the field of science communication is more diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive of the diversity of individuals involved in both practice and scholarly research. As part of this commitment, the scientific committee of PCST has introduced a DEIA Subcommittee in 2023.
The subcommittee raises awareness and incorporates approaches of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all network activities, including webinars, conferences, symposia, and other events. The aim is to promote more inclusive practices and eliminate discriminatory ones.
In line with these commitments, PCST and the University of Aberdeen ask that all participants of the PCST Conference 2025 commit to following the code of coexistence before attending. The code includes points that aim to ensure everyone is treated with respect and dignity.
In registering for the PCST Conference 2025 I agree to:
- Maintain an empathetic attitude toward openness and active listening for all participants.
- Create an atmosphere of equity, respect, and care.
- Be aware of our privileges and, where possible, use them to support people who do not have them.
- Cause no physical harm.
- Ensure comments to participants and organisers are constructive.
- When communicating, consider that this is an event with participants who speak multiple languages (including a diversity of accents), and make sure you speak clearly and slowly so that others can understand you (and be patient when they can’t).
- Do not make offensive comments or ask offensive questions that may cause discomfort for another participant (e.g., comments about race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religion, disability, political affiliation, or any other aspects of a participant’s identity).
- Acknowledge correct authorship and ownership of the research presented.
- Avoid taking or sharing photographs, video, audio, or any other type of personal data collection without the explicit consent of the individual(s) involved.
- Respect the venues that will host the meeting. All spaces are smoke-free, and food and beverages should be consumed only in spaces designated for coffee breaks.
- Wear the event badge during all activities to facilitate access to designated areas and staff identification.
