The University of Aberdeen has prepared a draft Gaelic Language Plan to promote the use and acquisition of Gaelic under the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005. Under the Act, public bodies are being notified by the Bord na Gaidhlig, the public body with responsibility for Gaelic, that they are required to produce a Gaelic Language Plan to assist in the national effort to secure the status of Gaelic as an official language of Scotland.
As part of the planning process, we would like to gain feedback on our Language Plan to assist us in refining our commitments. A series of public meetings are scheduled for the public, staff, and students to discuss the Plan with Vice-Principal Professor Bryan MacGregor, the Gaelic Language Plan Advisory Group Convener and Ashley Powell, Gaelic Development & Policy Officer. Please join us on the following dates to hear more about Gaelic at the University of Aberdeen:
