PLEASE NOTE: Films will happen over 3 nights at either New Kings 10, King's College Campus or the Polwarth Auditorium, Foresterhill Campus.
Wednesday 21 March
Fairytale of Kathmandu Venue: New Kings 10, University of Aberdeen, Old Aberdeen Time: 4pm

Director: Neasa Ni Chianain An Irish poet considered a god by his Nepalese teenage ‘friends’ is discovered in this heart wrenching documentary. Nesesa Ni Chianain won many international acclaims for this subtle, but hard hitting film that clearly shows her courageous take on the poet she idolised.

Upon returning to his village after a long spell in Malaysia, Krishna travels to a neighbouring village with his childhood friend Ramesh. On their journey they encounter a hermit who returns Krishna’s kindness with a strange gift- a monkey’s paw that will grant your wish. Unaware of its ominous powers, Ramesh makes a wish. Thus begins the journey of betrayal and revenge.

Oscar nominated film Himalaya by Eric Valli presents the story of Dolpo region in Nepal where villagers take a caravan of yaks carrying salt across the mountains to trade grain. Himalaya or Caravan (the original title) was the first Nepalese film to be nominated in the Best Foreign Film category in 1999. The film captures the breathtaking scenery while also depicting the generational struggle between the young and the old.

Duration: 34 min Film: Director: Mohan Mainali Filmed over a period of seven years, “Puneko Pant” is a tale of post-conflict Nepal. “It shows how the 10-year conflict in Nepal devastated families in Nepal. It is the story of Pune who is left to take care of his family after losing his father to the war”.
