The North-East of Scotland is the ballad capital of the world. We've got dramatic true stories, exquisite songs of love and loss, and humorous looks at North-East farm life.
The North-East of Scotland is the ballad capital of the world. The region’s traditional songs crossed the Atlantic, put down roots, became country music and together with the Blues became Rock and Roll. But the North-East is where it all began. We’ve got dramatic true stories, exquisite songs of love and loss, and humorous looks at North-East farm life.
This afternoon join Dr Tom McKean, Director of the University’s Elphinstone Institute, for a look at the amazing depth of our song traditions, our magnificent singing families, and stories of generations carried by one of the world’s outstanding traditions.
