The 6th Annual Philosophy Public Lecture with film screening of 'Me Before You'.
It is often assumed that disability makes people worse-off, in some sense, and that having a disability therefore has bad consequences for one’s well-being. In this talk, Professor Elizabeth Barnes from the University of Virginia will bring recent empirical data to bear on this discussion, and argue that the ‘bad-difference’ view should be rejected in favour of the ‘mere-difference’ view. Doing so requires giving due credibility to testimony from people with disabilities.
The lecture will be followed by a screening of ‘Me Before You’. The event (talk + screening) is free but booking is highly recommended.
This event is sponsored by the Royal Institute of Philosophy.
