About Clearing

Clearing is in operation each year following the release of exam results and is how universities fill any vacancies they may have on their courses. It means that you have a chance to find a course to suit you, even if your exam results are not quite as expected.

When you have your results, you can call us on +44 (0)1224 274 525 or use our live chat on the website to speak to a friendly adviser.

When you call, please have your UCAS Applicant ID number - the one which starts with a 1 - and your results ready and at hand.

During the phone call we'll ask you some questions to make sure that you're eligible for the course in which you're interested. If we're in a position to offer you a place, we will let you know within a minute and back this up immediately with an email which will explain exactly what you need to do to accept the offer to study at the University of Aberdeen.

Please note, we need to speak to the applicant directly unless we have agreed consent from them to talk to a parent, carer or guardian.

We will only be able to accept verified results released on results day and not the provisional results that you may receive from your school or college. These are either the official results submitted by the exam boards to UCAS or the qualification certificate you receive directly from the exam board.

This means we will confirm if you have met your conditions after we have received the officially confirmed grades and have reviewed your application again in full. Tuesday 6 August 2024 is when the Higher results will be released, and Thursday 15 August 2024 is when the A Level results will be released. Some qualifications, such as the IB, are issued ahead of these dates.

If, based on provisional grades you receive from your school or college, you think you haven't met your offer conditions, please try not to worry and please be reassured that we are here to help. Remember, your grades are only one part of your application. After the release of the verified results we will be reviewing again in detail the applications of those who do not meet offer conditions.

If you're waiting to hear from us about an acceptance, we will update the UCAS system when we've been notified of your exam results and then UCAS will let you know if you've been accepted.

If you haven't applied to UCAS yet, you'll need to register and make an application. The UCAS online application will guide you through the process.

The University of Aberdeen seeks to recruit as many well qualified applicants as possible and we are still in a position to offer places to all students for most subjects, with the exception of Medicine and Dentistry. Please visit the Our Degrees section to find out which programmes are available.

If you have already been confirmed we will provide your Student ID Number and instructions on how to apply for Halls of Residence within 48 hours of confirmation.

During your research, remember to look for the fees which apply to the area in which you live. There may be funding available, so have a look before you apply to ensure you're aware of the course and living costs.

Our undergraduate Scholarships, for those classified as Rest of UK (RUK) Fees, are available based on two criteria: "Access" and "Merit". Scholarships based on "Access" exist to support those who may otherwise struggle to meet the cost of studies while "Merit" scholarships are designed for those who have shown considerable academic potential in their A Level results.
