Our paid ABDN Internships opportunities are dedicated to current University of Aberdeen students and are available at various points throughout the year. Internships take place part-time during term time and up to full time during the summer.
All current students on a full degree programme, regardless of subject of study, including undergraduate and postgraduate, are eligible to apply.
Please note that you must be a registered student for the duration of the internship so final year undergraduates are not eligible. ISC programmes or access courses are not eligible.
Students who have been successful in securing ANY previous ABDN Internship, at any time since Summer 2023, are not eligible to apply.
Benefits of undertaking an internship
Previous ABDN interns, Laura, John and Emma, as well as their host organisations (Grampian Hospitals Art Trust, Ace Voices and Aberdeen City Council Countryside Ranger Service), tell us about the benefits of taking part in the ABDN Internships programme in the video below.
Funded by The Wood Foundation, the Interns with Impact programme has created opportunities for University of Aberdeen students to gain invaluable experience while actively supporting the third sector, locally, nationally and internationally.
Interns with Impact piloted in 2023 and successfully funded six internships with charitable organisations across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire in its first year. Expanding the programme, in Summer 2024 there were a total 13 internships including nine locally at organisations including Alcohol and Drugs Action, Aberdeenshire North Food Bank, Braemar Castle, Team Jak and Your Love Rara. Two students were also placed within third sector organisations in Edinburgh and two in Uganda.
Undergraduate students from any degree programme and year of study are eligible to apply for all ABDN Interns with Impact internships based in the UK. Final year students are not eligible for international internships (Uganda). ISC programmes or access courses are not eligible.
Students who have been successful in securing ANY previous ABDN Internship, at any time since Summer 2023, are not eligible to apply. If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact careers@abdn.ac.uk.
Postgraduate students are not eligible for Interns with Impact, but can apply for the ABDN part-time University of Aberdeen summer internship programme.

Emma King
Internship: Children, Young Person and Family Seasonal Impact Intern with Team Jak, Aberdeen
Emma joined the team over the summer to support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of sessions aimed at bringing joy and comfort to young people with cancer and their families. Her work helped ensure sessions were engaging, varied, and well-timed to meet the needs of those they support.
Kathryn's internship with the Marketing and Engagement/Outreach team focused on research for the Commemorative Plaque Scheme. Her work included creating biographies, preparing blogs, conducting picture research, and reaching out to former nominators and property owners with plaques.
Internship: ICT Intern, Red Earth Education, Uganda
Faizan supported Redearth Education in Uganda by providing technical assistance in ICT infrastructure, systems administration, and digital capacity-building initiatives. This experience allowed him to apply his ICT skills in a grassroots NGO setting while contributing to community development projects in Uganda.
Anna worked at Braemar Castle following its reopening in 2024, playing a key role in enhancing the visitor experience. She gathered observations, visitor data, and feedback from staff and volunteers to help shape a revised Marketing and Business Plan for the next three years.
Internship: Charity Re-brand Intern, Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Edinburgh/ St Andrews
Yelyzaveta had the role of researching branding and messaging of organisations similar to RSCDS, to run focus groups and surveys with members, volunteers, staff and other key stakeholders. She then wrote and presented reports on outcomes of research, providing insights and recommendations.
All current students on a full degree programme, regardless of year or subject of study, including undergraduate and postgraduate, are eligible to apply. ISC programmes or access courses are not eligible.

While all work experience can improve your employability skills, these internships are designed to offer experience towards a future career in certain sectors. Because of this, there may be cases where priority will be given to candidates with less experience who are looking for careers in a relevant field over and above candidates from less-relevant backgrounds with more qualifications or previous work experience.
