... so that he may approach the altar with a good conscience; and that the sacraments may bring him life and salvation. The author invokes Christ's words: 'The bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever. He that eateth me, even he shall live by me.' (see John, 6:51, 57). He invokes Christ as the bread of the sacrament, holy, living, beautiful and pure, giving life to the world.
