Prayers of and to St Bridget.
Prayer, Domine deus omnipotens benedictus, continued.
She acknowledges that she has wasted God's gifts - time for repentance has been
given over to vanities, her body to excesses, the grace of baptism to acts of
pride - and that she has loved everything but him, her creator and redeemer. In
addition, she has failed to acknowledge his patience and goodness but has
provoked him daily through her sins. For this reason, she begs God to have
mercy upon her.
cione digna essem in peccatis tollerasti et ad pe\nitenciam reduxisti. Recognosco domine coram\ maiestate tua omnia que dedisti michi ad salutem\ inutiliter et dampnabiliter expendisse videlicet\ tempus penitencie mee in vanitatibus. Corpus\ in superfluitatibus graciam baptismi in superbiis\ et omnia dilexi plusquam te creatorem et redemp\torem et nutritorem et servatorem meum. Et\ ideo misericordiam tuam peto quia misera sum ex me\ Et quia non agnovi benignam pacienciam tuam\ in me. Non timui horrendam equitatem tuam.\ Non attendebam quid tibi pro innumerabilibus bo\nis tuis responderem. Sed contra me de die in diem\ te malis meis provocabam. A prayer of St Bridget to God, acknowledging that all she is, and has, comes
from him. She asks him to deal with her according to his mercy not her sins.
