The next meeting of the Chinese Studies Group will take place on Tuesday, 8th October 2019.

Dr Xiaoqing Chen, who is a lecturer in the Business School at the University of Aberdeen, will speak on:

“Multidimensional Understanding of Hospitality and the Host-Guest Paradigm in China”.

At social and cultural levels, different societies require varying degrees of hospitality obligations - these duties and obligations falling on both guests and host. Importantly, these obligations evolve over time.Xiaoqing Chen compares the changing traditions of hospitality in the West and China and explores the essential, though overlooked, differences that relate to the host-guest relationship in Western and Chinese cultural contexts.

Xiaoqing previously worked in the Business School, University of Aberystwyth. Her research interests include cross-cultural differences against a background of international tourism and hospitality.
