The photo upload system only accepts files with the extension .jpg (it will not accept .jpeg). You can usually change the file type by right clicking on the file, selecting 'rename' and overwriting the current extension (e.g. .png) with jpg.

If you are still having issues after trying this, please email your photo to infohub@abdn.ac.uk. Please include your student ID number and date of birth in your email.

Your photograph must be:

  • .jpg file (other file types, such as .jpeg or .png are not accepted)
  • a minimum of 600 x 750 pixels in dimensions
  • at least 50Kb and no more than 10Mb in size
  • original and unaltered (e.g. no filters should be applied)

You can use your computer's 'snipping tool' to crop your photo to the correct size if it is too large. Remember to save your photo as a .jpg file type.

If you are still having issues uploading your photo and you think it meets the criteria above, please email your photo to infohub@abdn.ac.uk, including your student ID and date of birth in your email.

Your photo needs to meet the same requirements as a passport photo and must:

  • show you on your own, looking straight at the camera
  • be a close-up of your head and shoulders
  • show your full head, without any head covering, unless you wear one for religious beliefs or medical reasons
  • be identical and taken in the last month
  • be in colour, not black and white
  • be clear and in sharp focus, with a clear difference between your face and the background
  • be taken against a plain cream, plain white or plain light grey background
  • not show you with red-eye
  • be taken with your eyes open and clearly visible (no sunglasses or tinted glasses and no hair across your eyes)
  • be free from reflection or glare on your glasses
  • be taken with nothing covering your face
