Help with Additional Registration Support - Visa Related Enquiries

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are a new International student joining us on campus, the University is required by the Home Office UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to ensure that we have checked your right to study in the UK. This check includes recording your contact address in the UK and maintaining a record of your immigration documents such as your passport, visa and if applicable, your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).

The Tier 4 Compliance Team will be conducting this right to study check online. Once you have received your visa and have arranged your travel to the UK, please complete this form. Once you have submitted the online form, you will receive further instruction by email on the next steps.

For further information on the process, please visit the Immigration and Tier 4 Webpage.

If you have any queries, please contact immigration@abdn.ac.uk.

As part of your ongoing Tier 4 visa responsibilities, you are now required to complete an online visa check. This check replaces the in-person check that the Tier 4 Compliance Team usually run from Elphinstone Hall in September.

The visa check form is now available for you to complete online. Further reminder emails will be sent from the Student Immigration Compliance Team regarding the checks in the coming weeks.

If you have any queries, please contact immigration@abdn.ac.uk.

The Student Immigration Compliance Team will be completing an essential check of your passport, visa and if applicable, your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) through a secure online form.

For a step-by-step process for completing your online immigration document check, please view the Immigration and Tier 4 webpage. Please note that you will be invited by email to submit photocopies of your immigration documentation once you have registered your arrival on campus. If you will be receiving a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), please collect this from the Post Office before you complete the form.

Your visa application decision letter issued by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) should note a date on which your BRP will be available to collect from the Post Office. Please however note that at busy periods such as September, sometimes BRPs can be delayed in arriving at the Post Office.

Please remember that if you are required to self-isolate for 14 days on your arrival into the UK, please do not try to collect your BRP from the Post Office until you have completed the full 14-day period in self-isolation. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) usually instruct students to collect their BRP from the Post Office within 10 days of arrival into the UK. However, if you are unable to collect your BRP within this timeframe due to having to fulfil a period in self-isolation, UKVI have provided reassurance that you will not be penalised.

If you have any concerns regarding your BRP, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at immigration@abdn.ac.uk.
