General

The history of the UAB began on 6 June 1968, when the decree on the creation of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is officially promulgated. One month later the first four faculties are created: Philosophy and Arts, Medicine, Science and Economics.

Since its first years, the UAB strived to set the foundations for a university model based on the respect for the basic principles of autonomy, participation and social commitment.

In its mission, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona defines itself as a public Catalan university with an international outlook. To foster its objectives, it place special importance on strategic alliances with other universities through a variety of consortiums and networks. In the year 2022-2023 there were 1,725 foreign students in mobility programmes.
