Mitacs - UUKI Globalink Research Internship

Are you an excellent student interested in developing your research expertise with top professors in Canada? Read on to learn more about an exciting opportunity available in summer 2025 which is open to penultimate year undergraduate students across a wide variety of degree programmes.

Mitacs's Globalink Research Internship, in partnership with Universities UK International (UUKi), gives undergraduates in their penultimate year an opportunity to complete a fully-funded 12-week summer research internship in a wide variety of academic disciplines from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences. Successful applicants will complete an internship under the supervision of a host professor at one of 70 participating Canadian universities. For full information, visit Mitacs's website.

Eligibility Criteria - You must:

  • be an undergraduate enrolled full-time in an accredited university in the UK with a year remaining in your undergraduate degree following the end of the internship (ie an undergraduate student due to graduate in 2026) or two years remaining in your integrated Master's degree (ie an integrated Master's student due to graduate in 2027)
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • have a minimum weighted grade average of 65%. If you meet the University of Aberdeen's widening access criteria, Mitacs will accept a minimum weighted average of 60%. The Go Abroad Team will verify you meet the GPA requirements before you are nominated to Mitacs
  • be able to spend 12 weeks in the period May – October 2025 at a host university in Canada on a research project related to your area of interest and expertise
  • demonstrate oral and written fluency in English or French, depending on the primary language of the project
  • apply to a minimum of three to seven pre-existing research projects designed by Canadian professors and ensure selections are from at least three different Canadian provinces
  • be nominated by the University of Aberdeen to participate in the scheme (please note: if you apply independently to Mitacs without being nominated by the deadline, your application will be withdrawn)

There are a number of steps to be followed in the application process. However, if you are interested in being considered for this fantastic opportunity, the first step is to check if you think you meet the eligibility criteria outlined above. If you do, you must then contact the Go Abroad Team at GoAbroad.Outgoing@abdn.ac.uk by Wednesday 24 July 2024 at 09:00 (BST) to express your interest so we can verify your eligibility to be nominated. Students must be nominated by the Go Abroad Team before they will be considered by Mitacs.
