Go Abroad Fair

Go Abroad Fair

Catch up on the Go Abroad Fair 2024!

We held our 2024 Go Abroad Fair on 6 November and it was great seeing so many of you excited about all our go abroad opportunities! If you missed the Fair, don’t panic, we have a recap below. Or if you came along but now find yourself wondering what the next steps are, read on.

Catch up with the introductory presentation

As well as the opportunity to chat with the Go Abroad team, Go Abroad Tutors, Ambassadors and other exchange students, we gave an introductory info session at the Fair. If you missed it, or want a refresher, you can access the “International Opportunities” presentation slides. You can also access the recording of our 'International Opportunities' presentation once logged in to MyAberdeen.

Next steps for study exchange

Start your application prep on our study exchange application page:

  1. Check your eligibility and if there are any restrictions for your degree. We have plenty of resources on our website to guide you through your options, such as the list of destinations by degree, where you can see which destinations our students have gone over the last five years sorted by degree programme. Please be sure to read this information thoroughly.

  2. Figure out where you want to apply. European destinations are sorted by subject-specific and “all subject” options, whereas the Swiss and International partners are sorted by country/destination. Check each host for subject restrictions and if not otherwise stated, you can apply to any host that has sufficient courses available for exchange students for your degree. Don’t forget that Joint Honours students can apply via a university-wide link or a link in either subject. For students with compulsory course requirements, it is important that you try and find hosts which can offer suitable courses to match with them, so you do not miss out on the content. Not sure how to find out if you have any compulsory courses? Look at your degree calendar for the period you would like to apply to go abroad for. Additionally, all students need to ensure that they can find courses which will allow them to take a sufficient number of credits abroad to match the equivalent of 60 Aberdeen credits per semester. Use our credit load guide to see how many credits you will need to suggest as part of your application.

  3. We have feedback reports from previous cohorts of students in the Go Abroad organisation within MyAberdeen. These can be very helpful when considering your options and preparing your application. Please email GoAbroad.Outgoing@abdn.ac.uk to be given access.

  4. For application pointers, put a reminder in your diary for our Application Information event at 1pm on Wednesday 4 December (Taylor A21) where we will outline the application process in more detail and can answer application questions (please note we will not review any applications). You do not need to register in advance for this event, just come along.

  5. Once you’ve narrowed down your preferred hosts (you can rank up to five in your application), you can start preparing your documents before applications open on Wednesday 8 January 2025.

Traineeships, Summer Schools, and Mitacs

Information about applying for traineeships, summer schools and Mitacs will be updated over the coming months. The application period for these are later than for study exchange, so there is less urgency. Please keep an eye out for updates.

Questions?

If you still have burning questions and would like to ask a fellow student, you can reach out to our Go Abroad Ambassadors by email or by visiting InfoHub during the Go Abroad office hours (M/Tu 10:00-12:00; W/Th/F 14:00-16:00). If your question is academic-related, you can contact the Go Abroad Tutor for your subject area. Or you can always email the Go Abroad Team or arrange a virtual appointment. Be sure to follow our Instagram for information and advice about the study exchange application in the coming months.
