This programme holds accreditation from Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which allows graduates to progress on to the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). It also runs in parallel with the globally recognised qualification - CFA Level 1, so you have a choice and the opportunity to complete a leading professional qualification as part of your studies. Additionally, the Investment Property Forum has included this programme on its selected list of graduate programmes that they consider to provide the relevant skills necessary for those operating in the property investment market.
In the third term students have a further choice of three options which open up opportunities for a commercial or an international focus of study, either by writing a traditional dissertation, or visiting a range of cities in Asia as part of the Asian Cities course with associated reports based on learning from the trip. (Students will incur the costs of this course plus the travel, accommodation and subsistence for their time in Asia) or, undertaking a work placement in professional practice. Students are responsible for finding their own placement, but staff are there to support and guide students in this.

This course develops a mathematical and statistical ‘toolbox’ for PGT students in the Business School. These tools will be useful in understanding and implementing research in business- and economics-related fields both during a student’s academic career as well as after graduation. The first part of the course covers basic mathematical models common across these fields. The second part of the course develops standard data analysis methods, including multivariate regression. The final part of the course examines shortcomings in the standard model and describes ways of overcoming those shortcomings.

This course, which is prescribed for all taught postgraduate students, is studied entirely online, is studied entirely online, takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete and can be taken in one sitting, or spread across the first 4 weeks of term.
Topics include University orientation overview, equality & diversity, MySkills, health, safety and cyber security, and academic integrity.
Successful completion of this course will be recorded on your Transcript as ‘Achieved’.

This course introduces students to basic financial concepts before moving on to introduce students to a number of areas of corporate finance including investment appraisal decisions, examining capital structure theory, the financing decisions of the firm, and corporate restructuring. The main aim of the course is to equip students with good analytical skills in order to understand the implications of corporate financing decisions by understanding why companies behave the way they do with respect to financing choices and how this interacts with the real world financial markets, and to enable students to understand the theoretical underpinnings of corporate finance theory.

This course examines theories and issues relevant to portfolio analysis. Themes include: risk and return; investment motives; the application of modern portfolio theory (including the Capital Asset Pricing Model); information and market efficiency; portfolio analysis and asset pricing; bonds and equities; real estate and derivative markets.

Becoming a Certified Financial Analyst charter holder is the aspiration of every finance industry professional. This course covers the CFA syllabus courtesy of our friends from FitchLearning who will teach you week by week and prepare you for the CFA level 1 exam. You will also write an essay reflecting on professional and academic approaches to finance

The dissertation is an independent piece of work. The choice of topic is largely your own but approval must be obtained from the course coordinator and your dissertation supervisor. The dissertation should contain a large degree of original work and allow you to demonstrate in depth the skills and knowledge you have acquired on the MSc. The dissertation should be around 15000 words in length. You will be expected to show competence for independent work and to demonstrate a clear definition of the problem or subject area to be studied and the formulation and expression of a logical, workable solution.

Fee Information
An option may be available to include our Asian Cities tour modules in lieu of the dissertation at a cost of £1,000 for the tuition fees only. Students doing this option must note that they are responsible for travel and accommodation expenses additional to this sum. All fees are subject to annual review.
