Dr Tavis Potts and Dr Piotr Niewiadomski from the School of Geosciences were successful in an application to the British Council Researcher Links Workshop Grants: Peru. The project establishes collaboration with two Peruvian institutions, the Faculty of Environmental Sciences; Universidad Cientifica Del Sur (UCSUR) and the Department for Applied Research in Geography, Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

The 1-week workshop, to be held in March 2016, will explore the advances and opportunities for the implementation of the Green Economy in Peru. Researchers will, in collaboration with local industry and government representatives, identify the instruments that promote regional green growth and investment. This will result in a coordinated research agenda, sector strategies that promote green jobs, and increasing opportunities for international exchange, dialogue and cooperation in low carbon development.

The organisers are inviting early career researchers (ECRs) interested in sustainability and green growth in tourism, ground transport or coastal industries to apply for a place in the workshop. There are 30 places available in total – 15 for UK candidates and 15 for Peruvian candidates. Each of the three sectors of economy will be represented by 10 ECRs – five from each country. All travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the grant.
