BIG FREEZE on library fines, festive opening times and access
To assist students with the ever-increasing cost of living, the Library will stop charging fines for overdue returns with immediate effect. This will be on a permanent basis. We wish to ensure that our students have access to our resources and avoid unnecessary financial stress. All existing fines will be waived.
As fines were in place to encourage people to bring items back on time, we need everyone to play their part to make this work – please support your fellow Library users by checking your University e-mail account regularly and returning items by their due dates.
If items are not returned on time, we will not ask you to pay a fine, but as other students need access to our items, your library account will be frozen, and you will not be able to borrow any more items until the overdue item has been returned.
If the item has not been returned two weeks after its due date, we will need to ensure we have a way to provide it to others, so we will begin the process of invoicing you for the cost of a replacement.
Warm Space and Winter Opening
To help provide plenty of warm spaces for you to relax and study in The Sir Duncan Rice Library, we are not permitting external visitors beyond the Ground Floor until the end of the 24-hour opening period on 17th December. At this very busy time, we ask you to make every effort to respect our spaces and fellow library users.
Remember The Sir Duncan Rice Library will be open 26th – 30th December 9am - 5pm for both study and relaxation. Books can be borrowed, but there will be no IT or Library helpdesk services. To keep the building safe and secure, an ID card will be required for access, and Security staff will be present throughout opening times.
