To become a fully registered student, there are a number of steps you need to complete.

Student Online Registration (UG & PGT)

1. Set up your IT Account

You must activate your IT account, email and password.

  • If you are creating an IT account there may be a delay of up to 3 hours in getting access to other systems. This might affect those students from Qatar, Online and transnational.

Please note this will only be available 40 days before your start date.
Note your password - you'll use it to access everything, including WiFi.

  • Staff and students are required to secure their IT account by setting up Microsoft Authentication.
  • We recommend you set up two or more authentication methods

Top Tip

  • Connect your email to your mobile device. That way you will never miss any emails from the University.
  • Visit Toolkit to find out how to set up on your iOS or Android device.
  • Remember, we will be sending you a series of emails about getting ready and registration specific to your degree in the run-up to starting with us. Keep an eye on your University email for these!

2. Start Your Online Registration Process

To view the dates that online registration is open, visit this webpage.

You will be asked to:

  • Confirm your Personal, Financial and Academic details,
    • You must pay at least 50% of your tuition fees. Find out how to pay your tuition fees.
    • Sponsored students or students funded by Student Finance must send a copy of their award letter to tuitionfees@abdn.ac.uk (not required for students sponsored by SAAS).

Online Registration will take you through the whole process of getting yourself registered as a student of the University of Aberdeen. As part of the registration process you will also need to upload a photo for your student ID card. You can upload your student ID card photo here.

3. Choose Your Courses Through MyCurriculum

The next part of the registration process is selecting your courses using MyCurriculum. This step can only be completed after Step 2.

MyCurriculum is the course selection system for on campus students. You use it to pick your courses. The system will step you through the process of selecting the courses for your degree. You will select your Prescribed Courses first, followed (if applicable) by optional courses under the Enhanced and Other tab. You should spent some time thinking about your degree programme and the courses you might like to take.

Please note:

  • MyCurriculum will open to you on set dates, depending upon your year and programme of study. Information on when the systems will open to you can be found here.
  • Postgraduate research students, i.e. students studying for a PhD, do not need to complete MyCurriculum or MyTimetable. Contact the Infohub to complete your registration.
  • ERASMUS and International Exchange students will complete MyCurriculum with the assistance of their Go Abroad Tutor.

4. Choose your Class Selections Through MyTimetable

There can be a delay of up to 3 hours between completing MyCurriculum and all your courses being available for selection in MyTimetable.

MyTimetable allows you to choose and sign up for your tutorials, practicals and labs (if applicable) and finalise your personal timetable.

Please note:

  • If you are a new International student commencing your studies at the University please visit the immigration and student visas web page for full information on what you need to do. You WILL NOT be able to see your courses in MyAberdeen until you have done this step.
  • Some courses are online only and will not appear in MyTimetable.
  • Medical, Dental and Physician Associate Students do not need to complete MyTimetable at this stage, more information will be provided by your School at a later date.
  • PGDE Students do not need to complete MyTimetable at this stage, more information will be provided by your School at a later date.
  • If MyCurriculum has been completed for you by the school or online team please check the MyTimetable opening times.

  • Issues can be reported by using the 'Report a Problem' button that appears at the top right of MyTimetable and your request will be allocated to the most appropriate team.

5. Your VLE and Student Hub

VLEs

The University uses Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) that enable you to:

  • view all your teaching materials
  • access the University's online libraries
  • submit coursework
  • receive grades and feedback
  • keep up to date with what's happening on your course
  • chat with your tutors and classmates in secure forums

These are also discussed further in Orientation.

Student Hub

Once you have registered for the University of Aberdeen's computing facilities, you can use your computer username and password to access the University's Student Hub. From here you can view, check and update your personal details, course enrolments, class timetable, exam timetables and results, and more.

6. Immigration and Student Visa

If you are a new International student commencing your studies at the University you must arrive in the UK and complete your Right to Study Check in order to fully register by your latest course start date.

7. Complete Orientation

The Introduction to the University of Aberdeen Orientation programme has been designed to take you through all of the essential information you will need to prepare for and commence your student life.

It is mandatory for all new UG and PGT students, and you are expected to complete the programme within the first 4 weeks of teaching.

Upon completion of online registration, you will be able access the Orientation programme through MyAberdeen.

8. Get Connected to Social

Social Media for current students

The University of Aberdeen has a presence across all major social media channels for current students. We use these channels to keep you up to date with all things related and of interest to current students, make sure you follow these channels - there may even be a competition or two!

If you are a distance learning PGR student, once you have completed online registration you should email postgraduate@abdn.ac.uk and ask them to activate your record.

3. Immigration and Student Visa

If you are a new International student commencing your studies at the University you must arrive in the UK and complete your Right to Study Check in order to fully register by your latest course start date.

4. Orientation

The Introduction to the University of Aberdeen Orientation programme has been designed to take you through all of the essential information you will need to prepare for and commence your research degree. You can complete it before you arrive.

In addition to your University Orientation programme, as a PGR student you have a mandatory training programme that must be completed within your first 6 months.

You will also have a school and/or discipline specific orientation to complete.

5. Get Connected to Social

The University runs a PGR Facebook Group with the aim of connecting PGR students to each other for networking purposes prior to arriving and throughout their time studying with us here in Aberdeen.

During Welcome Week, Registration and support services will be available within the Science Teaching Hub between 20 January to 7 February, Monday to Friday 0900 - 1700 if you have any questions, or need support with anything.

Social Media for current students

Packing List
  • Don't pack more than you can carry!
  • Put tags onto all your bags and label them clearly
  • Check your airlines maximum luggage weights and policies
  • Check what luggage is allowed in hold and cabin
  • Pack for all weathers - sunshine, snow, rain and moderate.

Hand luggage:

Make sure you take photocopies of all your important documents, packing these into your hand baggage

  • Passport and visa
  • Flight tickets and any other travel documents
  • University documents
  • Evidence of financial support for fees and maintenance
  • Evidence of TB screening if this was required as part of your visa process
  • Travel insurance documents
  • Accommodation details
