Aberdeen Climate Action's 83rd Climate Café will be on the hot topic of "The Grid"
The UK Government's net zero target of carbon neutral electricity by 2030 is welcome and ambitious but requires a transformation of the grid. It requires huge government and private investment, will create thousands of jobs including in the North East of Scotland. But, it will require a huge increase in transmission in part delivered by controversial expansion of the pylons across the national and local landscape. Come here why we need the expansion, what the proposals are and why some aspects are opposed locally. In the free, hybrid (in person and online) we have three speakers
Prof Astley Hastings, University of Aberdeen will give an overview of the Grid
A representative from SSEN Transmission will describe the plans for the Grid
Mr John Rahtz from Deeside Against Pylons Action Group will explain the nature of opposition to planned changes to the transmission network.
Each speaker will talk for 15 minutes, and after all have spoken there will be a Q&A session with both in person and online audience called to ask questions.
The event will start at 7pm but feel free to come in to NESCOL from 6.30pm as there is a cafe so you can get a drink and socialise with the other attendees.
