Autism Talk by Alastair Meek

Autism Talk by Alastair Meek
-

This is a past event

In this talk, Alastair Meek will talk about why we don't really know what autism is, and give some advice on how to understand it.

Alastair is autistic himself, and has been involved in the autistic support field for twenty years. He's worked with autistic people at all levels of the spectrum, as well as with researchers and government bodies discussing autism. He's currently a 3rd year Psychology student at the University of Aberdeen. In this talk, there is a heavy focus on assumptions - and how they have affected our understanding of autism. It will end with some ideas from Alastair's perspective on how to interact with, interpret, and teach autistic individuals. This is however a very large topic area, and so it's a rapid overview. Alastair is more than happy to try to answer any questions or expand on points raised during the talk.
