University Collections were delighted to welcome special guest, Johanna Basford, to the Sir Duncan Rice Library to lead the colouring in of a giant 4-metre-wide version of a map of Iceland to celebrate the final day of Book Week Scotland 2025.
A digital outline of the map was created from a page in the Ortelius atlas of 1592 which is a star item in the University’s collections.
A big thank you to everyone who joined in to create a spectacularly vibrant map featuring sea-monsters, volcanoes and a kaleidoscope of rivers and valleys.
The completed map will go on display in January.
