Sir Duncan Rice Library - Floor Two Transformation

Work has begun on the redevelopment of Floor Two of The Sir Duncan Rice Library, in response to surveys and focus groups with the student community here at the University of Aberdeen, alongside an assessment of data on the use of our spaces and resources. This floor will therefore not be accessible between May and September 2023. We will be introducing high quality group study spaces on this floor, to accommodate a growth in demand, and to reduce the need for group conversations to happen close to those trying to study quietly.

The print journals on Floor Two are being relocated to our remote store in Inverurie. It will still be possible to use the journals by requesting them via Primo and having them delivered to any of our three libraries. Such a request will bring titles back within 24 hours, Mon-Fri. The microfilm collection and microfilm reader on this floor will also be moved. The microfilm will be moved to the remote store, accompanied by the same request and delivery service, and the reader to Taylor Law Library.

The floor will be redeveloped and reopened for the start of the 2023/2024 academic year.

The three PC Classrooms currently on Floor Two will not be available over the summer, but will still be there in September 2023. The Bloomberg PCs used by students across the Business School have been moved to Floor 1 of the SDRL while this exciting work takes place.

Updates on the ongoing work will appear on this page as they happen.
