Strike Action Update - 6 February 2023

Dear student,

Last week I updated you on the news that members of the University and College Union (UCU) at 150 UK universities, including the University of Aberdeen, have announced a number of days of strike action – the first of which took place on Wednesday, 1 February.

The action is being held over issues related to pay, pensions, workload, casualisation, and equality.
The University will remain open for business as normal during the upcoming days of strike action, which are available here in our FAQs.

Only some of our academic staff are members of the UCU and not all members may participate in all strike days, therefore you should attend classes as normal unless you hear otherwise.

Your School will let you know if classes are cancelled as far as they are able to, bearing in mind that staff do not have to inform the University in advance if they intend to take strike action.

If you have any questions or concerns, please refer to our FAQs which provide further information – if you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, then please contact academicservices@abdn.ac.uk.

I will keep you updated on developments, and in the meantime I want to assure you that we are doing all we can to minimise disruption to your teaching, learning, and student experience during this period.

Best wishes
Ruth
