This event is your chance to be part of a "revolution" within academia. Join us via Teams or in person at the University of Aberdeen for 2 days of hands-on training in liberatory, participatory, and decolonizing research methods. Learn how research can be a powerful tool for driving social change and making a real difference in the world.

This intensive workshop will be led by Dr. Meagan Call-Cummings (Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Education), whose expertise lies in the meaningful inclusion of those who are often excluded from the knowledge creation process.

As a participant, you will get a chance to discuss what you value, how you believe knowledge is created, and what this means for the type of research you'll pursue. What's more, mini lectures, virtual panel presentations, and methods practice (in photovoice, storyboarding, and dialogic techniques like Ripples of Change and Priority Card Sorting), will be formational in your development as a competent researcher and compassionate educator.

By the end of this workshop, you will develop a personalized action plan that identifies specific research strategies and practices, tailored to your discipline and future academic endeavors. This plan will include clear steps for integrating these methods into ongoing research projects, publication strategies, teaching practices, and collaborative efforts, fostering a sustained commitment to equitable and inclusive scholarship.

Thanks to SGSAH funding, this workshop is free to PhD students in the arts and humanities (and limited space will be available for other doctoral students, masters students, early career researchers, and others). Practiced at integrating leaders across disciplines, Dr. Call-Cummings (Co-Founder of the Youth Research Council and the Summer Institute in Anti-Racist and Decolonizing Research Methods) will draw on literature and offer examples from public health, social work, psychology, education, criminal justice, conflict resolution, religion, and more.

While universities have taken steps to support inclusive and equitable research at the institutional level, further training is required to make this a reality. Come together with other rising scholars to acknowledge, repair, and avoid the harms that have been perpetrated by research for centuries. Please register promptly, as space is limited (both online and on campus) in order to facilitate a meaningful experience.
