The library are offering a series of online workshops for postgraduates on essential digital research skills.
Copyright might not be the first thing you think about when you’re writing an article or thesis but how do you know if you’re using material legally before you publish it for everyone to see? And how do you manage your own copyright if you want to publish your work commercially or make it freely available for anyone to read and share?
This 2-hour online workshop will take you through all the key things you need to consider when doing your research and publishing your findings, whether that’s in a book, an article, or your thesis. This is especially important for anyone who is writing a thesis or article that will be publically available via the University of Aberdeen repository or a commercial publisher.
The workshop will be facilitated by the Library’s in-house copyright expert and include plenty of time for discussion and questions.
After this workshop, you will be able to:
-
Understand when you do and when you don’t need to seek permission to reuse material.
-
Understand the differences between different Creative Commons licences so you can reuse openly licensed material or apply licences to your own work.
-
Apply a step-by-step rights-checking process to third-party material you want to reproduce in your own work.
