Join the Confucius Institute for a public lecture looking at cross-cultural musical expression through an exploration of Tan Dun's Crouching Tiger Concerto, originally written for cello and orchestra as part of the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and later adapted for erhu (Chinese fiddle) and orchestra.

Discover how the work’s two versions reflect the balance between Chinese musical tradition and Western classical forms. Featuring insights from conductor and erhu player Xinjie Yang, and composer Po Hang Yuen, this talk examines cultural integration in music through comparisons of articulation, improvisation, and the soloist’s role.
