Smoking ban on NHS grounds

Smoking ban on NHS grounds

On Tuesday 31st March 2015 all NHS sites in Scotland will be smoke-free. From this date, University staff, students, contractors and visitors at Foresterhill will be asked to wait until they are off NHS grounds before lighting up (or using electronic alternatives) and smoking shelters will be removed from hospital grounds.

The ambitious move to achieve smoke-free status in the grounds of every hospital, health centre and NHS building across the country is part of a national drive to create a tobacco free generation within Scotland by 2034.

University staff and students are asked to support our NHS partners by:

  • Sticking to the smoke-free policy throughout NHS grounds and University sites at Foresterhill
  • Helping to promote smoke-free grounds to colleagues, contractors and visitors

Although this campaign is not asking smokers to quit but instead to wait until they are off NHS grounds before lighting up, anyone who wishes to get help to stop smoking can contact the Occupational Health Service or the Smoking Advice Service helpline – Freephone 0500 600 332.
