The Alumnus Association of the University of Aberdeen is pleased to announce that HRH The Duchess of Rothesay GCVO has graciously agreed to act as Honorary President of the Association for a term of three years.
The Duchess was appointed Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen in June 2013. Since that time Her Royal Highness has officiated at a summer graduation and has formally opened the Aberdeen Aquatics Centre; the Centre was formed in partnership between the University, Aberdeen City Council and sportscotland, and supported by philanthropic donations.
Prior to becoming Chancellor, Her Royal Highness visited the University on a number of occasions, including the Reading Bus in 2011, which inspires and encourages young children towards a love of books and reading. In 2007 The Duchess of Rothesay opened the new Health Sciences Building.
Jennifer Shirreffs, President of Aberdeen University Alumnus Association, said “We are absolutely delighted that Her Royal Highness is extending her support for the University to honour us by accepting the role of Honorary President of our strong and engaged community of former students and staff.”
The Aberdeen University Alumnus Association was established in 1939 and currently has over 1,000 members. The Association organises a regular programme of events for members, their partners and guests who live in the northeast of Scotland or regularly visit that area including academic talks, theatre and festival visits, excursions and an annual Christmas celebration in King's College Chapel. The Association works closely with the University's Alumni Relations team to support engagement with our UK and International alumni family.
