Next month, (Wednesday 18 March) the University and Lend Lease (the main contractor on the new Rowett building) will undertake a one-day community volunteering project with Cordyce School in Dyce.
The School has identified three outdoor areas that are to be transformed in a day-long ‘blitz’ – revamping these outdoor areas to provide improved outdoor learning and nurture spaces.
Originally scheduled for last September, this new date is now confirmed in the diary and is being opened up to see if there are any new volunteers who’d also like to join in.
We’re looking for a team of around 15 volunteers to work alongside Lend Lease and the School on this day-long blitz. The activity will be quite physical and will include some heavy weeding, digging, clearing and painting. Ideally volunteers will be available for the full-day, but half-day participation will also be a possibility.
Cordyce School provides secondary education for pupils with additional support needs arising from social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. The School sits on a fantastic site by the river in Dyce but the school facilities are showing their age. The School itself identified the project and sees the transformation of these outdoor areas as a positive outcome that will help in its efforts to nurture some of the hardest to reach children in the city.
Anyone interested in participating in this worthwhile project, should contact Fraser Lovie on f.lovie@abdn.ac.uk. The activity is being supported institutionally, but colleagues should seek their line-manager’s agreement before volunteering.
